A complete walkthrough of Emma & Koo's journey through post-apocalyptic Japan — from the ruined village to the final battle against the Beast of Reincarnation
🌳 Chapter 1: The Awakening
You begin as Emma, waking in a ruined village in Japan, year 4026. The Blight has consumed everything — only crumbling structures and twisted Malefacts remain. This chapter serves as an extended tutorial.
Objectives
Learn Basic Controls
Follow the on-screen prompts. Practice light attacks, combos, and dodging against the tutorial Malefacts. These enemies are slow and forgiving — use this time to get comfortable.
Meet Koo
After the first combat encounter, you find Koo trapped by Blight vines. Free him using your katana. This unlocks Koo's first command ability.
Practice Koo Commands
The game teaches you to slow time and issue Koo orders. Try the binding ability on the next group of enemies.
First Blighted Hair Tutorial
Reach a collapsed bridge. Use Blighted Hair to grapple across. Hold the target button and press grapple.
Defeat the Tutorial Golem
A medium-sized automaton guards the village exit. Focus on parrying its slow, telegraphed swings. Koo's binding makes this fight trivial.
Reach the First Camp
After the Golem, follow the path to your first camp. Rest, allocate your first attribute points, and learn your first skill.
Collectibles
- Spirit Stone (Vitality I): Behind the collapsed shrine, use Blighted Hair to reach the rooftop.
- Iron Katana: In the locked chest near the village well — break the wooden boards with attacks.
- Memory Fragment #1: At the far end of the village, near the exit.
🌲 Chapter 2: First Blighted Forest
Emma and Koo venture into their first Blighted Forest (污穢森林). These massive biomes are where the Blight runs strongest, warping both the landscape and its inhabitants into deadly forms. Each forest is ruled by a Nushi — a colossal Malefact boss.
Objectives
Enter the Forest
The forest entrance is marked by glowing purple flora. Stock up at the camp just outside before entering.
Navigate Through Minor Malefacts
The forest is filled with corrupted wildlife. Practice your parry timing here — the wolf-like Malefacts telegraph their lunges clearly.
Activate the Forest Shrine
Midway through, you'll find a Blight Shrine. Activate it to create a camp checkpoint and unlock fast travel.
Optional: Clear the Underground Den
A side path leads to a cave system. Contains a rare Spirit Stone and a Memory Fragment. Recommended but not required.
Reach the Forest Heart
Follow the main path to the deepest part of the forest. The environment becomes increasingly corrupted.
Boss: Corrupted Guardian

Absorb the Nushi's Power
After victory, Emma absorbs the Nushi's essence. This unlocks your first Bloom Art: Verdant Slash.
Before leaving the forest, return to the entrance area. A previously blocked path is now open, leading to a hidden chest with a rare talisman for Koo.
🤝 Chapter 3: Unlikely Allies
Emerging from the first forest, Emma and Koo encounter two human survivors: Brad (a gruff scavenger) and Kagura (a researcher studying the Blight). They reveal that the Capital still stands — but the Beast of Reincarnation threatens to destroy it. Your next destination: an underground facility that may hold answers.
Objectives
Explore the Survivor Camp
Brad and Kagura's camp has a merchant, workbench, and lore items. Talk to everyone for side quests.
Side Quest: Scavenger's Request
Brad asks you to retrieve supplies from a nearby ruined building. Easy XP and an armor upgrade.
Enter the Underground Facility
The entrance is beneath a collapsed temple east of camp. Use Blighted Hair to clear debris from the entrance.
Navigate the Facility
The facility is a maze of corridors patrolled by Golems — mechanical enemies with dismemberment mechanics. Target their limbs to disable specific attacks.
Solve the Terminal Puzzle
A locked door requires activating three terminals in the correct order. Clues are in the facility logs scattered throughout.
Boss: Mech Sentinel
The facility's guardian. A hulking armored automaton. Dismember its arms first to reduce its attack options. Full strategy in Boss Guide.
Discover the Truth
Defeating the Sentinel reveals data logs about the Blight's origin and a mysterious "Project Bloom."
⚔️ Chapter 4: The Rival — Kunai
Leaving the facility, Emma is confronted by Kunai — a mysterious swordswoman traveling with her own Malefact companion. Kunai challenges Emma to a duel, claiming that the "Blightborn" cannot be trusted with the power of the Nushi.
Objectives
Traverse the Wasteland
The path to Kunai's arena crosses an open wasteland. Lots of flying enemies here — practice ranged combat.
Boss: Kunai — First Duel
This is the game's first true skill check. Kunai fights like a mirror of Emma — katana, parries, and her own Bloom Arts. This is a parry-heavy fight. See full strategy.
Aftermath
Regardless of outcome (the fight ends in a draw narratively), Kunai reveals fragments of the world's truth and becomes a recurring character.
Second Blighted Forest
Kunai points you toward another Blighted Forest where a Nushi of immense power resides.
🐍 Chapter 5: The Blighted Serpent
The second Blighted Forest is denser and more vertical than the first. The Nushi here is the Blighted Serpent — a massive snake-like Malefact that coils through the entire forest. This chapter introduces climbing mechanics similar to Shadow of the Colossus.
Objectives
Enter the Serpent's Domain
This Blighted Forest has a swamp theme. Poison puddles reduce HP over time — craft antidotes at the camp.
Activate Three Shrines
To weaken the Serpent, activate three Blight Shrines scattered across the forest. Each shrine is guarded by a mini-boss.
Optional: Hidden Memory Cave
A hidden underwater entrance leads to a cave with crucial lore about Emma's past. Requires upgraded Blighted Hair to access.
Boss: Blighted Serpent
The Serpent fight has three phases. Phase 1: fight on the ground, dodging poison attacks. Phase 2: climb its body using Blighted Hair grapples. Phase 3: the Serpent becomes enraged — time your parries perfectly. See full strategy.
Absorb the Serpent's Power
Unlocks Venom Fang — a Bloom Art that applies poison DOT and a new Koo ability: Toxic Howl.
🌃 Chapter 6: The Capital
Emma finally reaches the Capital, humanity's last bastion. But all is not well — internal faction conflicts and a growing Malefact threat endanger the city. This chapter is the longest, featuring multiple areas, two boss fights, and major story revelations.
Objectives
Enter the Capital
The Capital is a hub area with merchants, quests, and upgrade stations. Explore thoroughly — this is your main base for the remaining game.
Investigate the Lower Ward
Recent Malefact attacks in the lower ward. Fight through corrupted streets and rescue survivors.
Confront the Capital Council
The ruling council is divided on how to handle the Blight. Your choices here affect which allies support you in the endgame.
Defend the Outer Wall
A large-scale battle. Malefacts assault the wall — use all your skills to repel the waves. Koo's AOE abilities shine here.
Boss: Corrupted Commander
A former Capital guard transformed by the Blight. Uses sword and shield — break his guard with Koo's shield-break ability.
Third Blighted Forest — The Abyss
The Capital's sewers connect to a third Blighted Forest below the city. Confront the Blighted Behemoth Nushi.
🔮 Chapter 7: Truth of the Blight
The accumulated data from the Nushi you've defeated reveals the true nature of the Blight — and Emma's connection to it. Kunai returns, now as an ally, and together you prepare for the final confrontation.
Objectives
Return to the First Forest
The original Blighted Forest has transformed. New areas are accessible with your upgraded abilities.
Collect the Remaining Nushi Powers
Optional: defeat any skipped Blighted Forest Nushi. Strongly recommended before the final chapter.
Confront Kunai Again (Optional)
Find Kunai at the wasteland arena for a rematch. Winning unlocks her talisman for Koo.
Prepare for the Final Battle
Stock up at the Capital. Upgrade all equipment. Allocate remaining skill points.
💥 Chapter 8: The Beast of Reincarnation
The final chapter. The Beast of Reincarnation has awakened at the heart of the original Blight. Emma and Koo must face their destiny.
Objectives
Enter the Origin Forest
The sixth and final Blighted Forest. The most dangerous area in the game — every enemy is a threat at this point.
Gauntlet of Guardians
A series of mini-bosses guarding the path. This tests everything you've learned.
Boss: Kunai — Final Stand
Optional: Kunai appears for one last test before the final boss. The hardest duel in the game.
Final Boss: Beast of Reincarnation

Ending
Your choices throughout the game determine which ending you see. Multiple endings are available.
